Welcome to the research group of Urban and Regional Sociology

The subject of sociology is the question of how people shape their coexistence.  Urban and regional sociology poses this question in relation to the city and the region.

In research and teaching, we focus on social, political and cultural issues, trends and problems of modern and current urban and regional development, especially in Europe.

Our aim is to analyse and interpret these developments from a historical perspective and in their importance for planning thinking and action.

This requires the study of social science theories and methods of analysing urban and regional development processes.

An important aim of all our courses is to convey the basics of (social) scientific work:  Reading texts, writing texts, asking questions, recognizing, researching, defining, explaining, interpreting, arguing and criticizing connections.
